Child struck by father: prosecutor investigates for negligent injury

The Larino prosecutor's office has launched an inquiry into the incident that occurred this morning in Portocannone, in the province of Campobasso, where a 22-month-old girl was struck by a car driven by her father in front of the family home, according to ANSA Cronaca.

The child was transported by helicopter to Ancona hospital following initial admission to San Timoteo in Termoli. Her condition is grave: doctors have identified multiple injuries and severe head trauma. The prognosis remains guarded.

Initial investigations indicate that the man was performing a reversing manoeuvre and was not aware of his daughter's presence. The file opened by investigators is, for the time being, for negligent injury.

Termoli police are conducting investigations into what happened and have seized the vehicle involved.
