Drugs raid in Catania: almost 400 grams of marijuana seized between Nesima and Monte Po

In recent days, police officers from the Nesima Police Station carried out an anti-drugs operation in the Catania neighbourhoods of Nesima and Monte Po, with support from police dog units. The final tally exceeded three hundred and fifty grams of substances seized.

The checks targeted areas surrounding public housing complexes on via Santo Cantone. Officers searched communal spaces, courtyards and perimeter areas of various buildings.

In a doorway, the search dog Briska signalled insistently the space containing the water meters. Operators inspected the area and, in a cavity created in the upper part of the room, found a package containing three hundred grams of marijuana. In another building, a hiding place created inside a wall niche yielded a further thirty-five grams of the same drug.

The substances were analysed with a narcotest and confiscated. The investigation is continuing against unknown persons.

During checkpoint operations along roads in the two neighbourhoods, police officers noticed a vehicle parked at the roadside. The driver, a thirty-three-year-old man from Poland, reacted in visibly agitated manner when approached by officers. The search resulted in the discovery of six grams of marijuana and two grams of hashish, presumably intended for personal consumption. The man was reported to the Prefecture as a drug user and the doses were seized.

In another incident, two young men identified during checks were carrying a total of fifteen grams of marijuana. An administrative report was also filed against them and the material was seized.

The activity was made public through the website of the Catania Police Headquarters.
