An operation by the Trieste Finance Police dismantled a criminal group that supplied drugs to tourist destinations in the north-east during the summer season.

The Trieste Finance Police have concluded an investigation targeting an organisation engaged in drug trafficking in tourist areas along the Adriatic coast. The investigative activity, conducted under the coordination of the Milan Anti-Mafia Directorate, resulted in the detention of 16 individuals and 35 other people being entered in the register of investigated persons.
During the operations, the military personnel seized nearly 100 kilos of drugs: more than 77 kilos of marijuana and 21 kilos of cocaine. The confiscated material also includes three pistols with serial numbers removed, ten bladed weapons and an Alfa Stelvio car used for illegal transport. Goods and liquid assets worth approximately 1.1 million euros were also blocked.
The criminal association ran a distribution network covering various regions of northern and central Italy, intensifying activity during the summer weeks to supply beach destinations in Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia. The locations affected include Lignano, Bibione, Jesolo, Caorle, Grado and Sistiana, with deliveries made near nightclubs, pubs and beach establishments.
The group's logistics were based on numerous flats and lockups rented in Lombardy, used as warehouses for storage and packaging of goods. The property owners were unaware of the illegal activities carried out inside. Individuals of Albanian nationality, often with no criminal records, were employed for transport and delivery, sent to Italy for short periods.
The commander of the Trieste Finance Police, General Stefano Commentucci, highlighted how the investigation had made it possible to interrupt an established supply channel to the area's main tourist destinations, protecting a territory of significant economic and tourist importance.
