More than 130 litres of drug in liquid form were intercepted at Guglielmo Marconi Airport in Bologna during a joint operation between the Guardia di Finanza and the Customs Agency. The consignment, with an estimated value exceeding 100,000 euros, was concealed in over forty containers that appeared to contain dark liqueur.
The two people detained are a 50-year-old man and a 30-year-old man, both of Nigerian origin. For approximately the past six months they had been making regular stopovers in Bologna on intercontinental flights connected to Africa. Targeted inspections on African routes made it possible to identify and intercept them.
Laboratory analyses revealed that the liquid was not alcoholic, but a synthetic substance known as "monkey tail". This drug, produced clandestinely by African criminal organisations, is increasingly used by young people by mixing it into drinks.
The consignment was not accompanied by health documentation or customs declarations. The suspected drug dealer was arrested on charges of flagrante delicto, whilst the accomplice, identified as the transporter, was reported to the magistracy without arrest.
