A park in the Lombard city was the scene of an attempted murder targeting two young children. The perpetrator, a 29-year-old man, was arrested and subsequently placed under restriction of personal liberty at his home pending trial. The news was reported by ANSA.
Laura Castelletti, mayor of the provincial capital, described the incident as an event that "deeply shakes" the community. The mayor expressed concerns about the decision not to order imprisonment for the assailant, emphasising the difficulty citizens face in accepting that someone who has committed such an act against children is not incarcerated.
The suspect, a foreigner legally present on Italian territory, is now subject to administrative proceedings aimed at revoking his residence permit and forcibly removing him from Italy. However, the mayor highlighted a significant discrepancy between the expulsion decrees issued by the authorities and those actually carried out: during 2025, of more than 21,000 expulsion decrees, only just over 6,000 have actually been executed.
"We are asking the Interior Minister to provide clear answers to the country. Slogans are not needed, concrete results are needed," Castelletti stated, addressing Matteo Piantedosi directly.
The incident has reignited debate over the management of urban security and the effectiveness of the tools available to the state to deal with crimes committed by foreign nationals.
