Camper from Spain with 70 kilos of drugs: three arrested in the Varese area
The Guardia di Finanza stopped two Spanish nationals and an Italian during the transport of narcotics destined for the drug trafficking market. The total seizure amounts to approximately five million euros.
Camper used as mobile base for drug trafficking
According to ilgiorno.it, the Guardia di Finanza of the Economic and Financial Police Unit in Varese interrupted a narcotics transport originating from Spain. Three people were arrested: two Spanish nationals aged 55 years, a couple, and an Italian aged 34 years resident in the Varese area. The vehicle, a camper with Spanish licence plates, was transporting over 70 kilos of drugs destined for the drug trafficking market.
The financial police officers noticed the camper heading towards a wooded area in Ternate, accompanied by a Fiat 500. Once they reached a clearing in the woods, the occupants of the camper unloaded a large holdall into the boot of the vehicle. At that point the military personnel intervened, stopping the three and seizing the bag. Inside were cocaine packages marked with the image of Superman.
Composition and value of the seized drugs
The total cargo seized comprised 49 kilos of cannabis, 19 kilos of cocaine, almost two kilos of hashish and 72 grammes of heroin. There were also present 233 LSD stamps and 200 ecstasy tablets. The total value of the drugs was estimated at approximately five million euros.
During searches, 6,600 euros in cash were also found, two precision scales and various objects considered to be improvised weapons: a taser, a machete, a baseball bat, a telescopic baton and a penknife. The investigators considered the money and scales to be connected to drug trafficking activities.
Drug flavoured to increase commercial attractiveness
Part of the cocaine seized had been mixed with methamphetamine and artificially flavoured with various tastes: strawberry, grape, coconut and melon. According to the investigators, this method of preparation was aimed at making the substance more attractive on the drug trafficking market. The three arrested individuals were investigated on charges of drug trafficking and possession of improvised weapons.
