Cassino: arrest for sexual assault on cycle path
An Egyptian national residing in Cassino has been remanded in custody by order of the local court. The measure was executed by police from the municipal police station.
The incident dates to 19 June. An athlete was exercising on the cycle path when an individual approached her pretending to be a rehabilitation professional. Under the pretext of suggesting muscle stretches, he began to harass the woman.
The victim attempted to flee, but was caught in an isolated area on Via Varlese. There the attacker immobilised her and touched her against her will.
Following the complaint, officers reconstructed the suspect's movements and the vehicle used, gathering substantial evidence that persuaded the investigating magistrate to request remand in custody. The examining judge accepted the public prosecutor's request.
The detainee is now held in Cassino prison, awaiting trial.
It should be noted that the person under investigation enjoys the presumption of innocence until final conviction.
