Cassino, woman arrested for gold fraud: 450 grammes recovered
The State Police have arrested a 31-year-old woman from Naples who deceived an elderly woman using the "fake Carabiniere" scam. The stolen gold and pearls have been fully recovered.

Fraud discovered thanks to off-duty police officer
According to questure.poliziadistato.it, the State Police at Cassino Police Station arrested a 31-year-old woman, originally from Naples, on suspicion of aggravated fraud against an elderly woman. The operation arose thanks to the intuition of an off-duty officer who, suspicious of the woman's dubious behaviour, followed her at a distance and requested immediate intervention from a patrol car. During the subsequent search, police recovered 450 grammes of gold and 150 grammes of pearls hidden on the suspect.
The scam had been orchestrated according to the well-tested "fake Carabiniere" scheme. An accomplice had contacted the victim by telephone, convincing her to hand over all her jewellery to a collaborator, claiming that it needed to be examined due to an alleged theft that had occurred in the area. The 31-year-old was the operative arm of the fraud, tasked with collecting the proceeds.
In addition to provisional custody, the woman was reported for trial for false declarations regarding her identity and flagged administratively for possession of approximately half a gramme of hashish. The entire stolen property was returned to its rightful owner. The woman was transferred to Rebibbia Prison and a proposal for mandatory expulsion from the municipal area has been advanced against her.
The State Police emphasised how this result demonstrates the importance of maintaining vigilance against individuals who target vulnerable sections of the population. The office urges citizens to be wary of strangers and to report suspicious behaviour to the Single Emergency Number 112.
