The State Police arrested a 57-year-old man with a criminal record for possession with intent to distribute controlled substances. This was announced by questure.poliziadistato.it, noting that the presumption of innocence remains valid until a possible final conviction.
The operation was conducted by officers of the Mobile Squad of Catania Police Headquarters as part of a specific plan drawn up by the Headquarters to strengthen drug trafficking prevention services across the entire provincial territory.
Officers from the "Falchi" section, during a patrol activity in the Picanello area, identified the man in a small car. As they approached for a check, they immediately perceived a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle's interior.
The subsequent search of the vehicle, which was also extended to the 57-year-old's home, resulted in the seizure of over 650 grammes of marijuana, 290 grammes of hashish and 100 grammes of wax. The material was kept partly in the car and partly at home, together with packaging material and precision scales.
After informing the duty Public Prosecutor, the man was arrested and taken to Piazza Lanza prison, where he is being held pending the validation hearing.
