Catania: 52-year-old arrested, half a kilogramme of marijuana hidden in his home
A 52-year-old man with a criminal record has been arrested in Catania: he was breaching house arrest and kept approximately 500 grammes of drug substance in his residence.

Officers from the Mobile Squad of Catania Police Headquarters arrested a 52-year-old man, already known to law enforcement. The convicted criminal was on via Magrì, an area where officers were carrying out checks aimed at preventing and combating criminal activity.
The man was subject to a house arrest order, but had left his home for a walk with his pet. Police officers immediately recognised and stopped him.
Following the street search, investigators decided to search his house. During the search they found approximately half a kilogramme of cannabis, stored in various packages. Part of the drug was concealed inside an old and faulty household appliance, whilst another quantity had been hidden in a space created above a kitchen cupboard.
Along with the drug substance, officers seized scales and devices for vacuum-packing the goods, evidence suggesting a dealing operation.
The 52-year-old was arrested for two offences: evasion and possession of drugs for the purpose of dealing. On the order of the duty magistrate, he was taken to the cells at Police Headquarters whilst awaiting trial for immediate proceedings. The presumption of innocence applies until a final sentence.
