Who is Salim El Koudri, the Modena investor: economics degree and psychiatric care
The 31-year-old born in Bergamo and resident in Ravarino severely injured four people in central Modena. No signs of radicalisation, but a history of psychiatric distress.
Salim El Koudri, still an enigma for investigators
According to ANSA Cronaca, Salim El Koudri remains a figure difficult to decipher for those conducting the investigation. The 31-year-old, born in Bergamo and resident in Ravarino, hit a group of people with a car in the centre of Modena, severely injuring four of them. He held a degree in business economics and was unemployed at the time of the incident.
A search carried out at his home in Ravarino did not yield immediately relevant evidence. An analysis of the seized devices has not revealed, so far, any indications of radicalisation.
Psychiatric history and a community that did not know him
The mayor of Modena, Massimo Mezzetti, provided details about the man's profile: "He had experienced elements of schizophrenia that had led him to visit mental health centres between 2022 and 2024, but he was not subject to a compulsory treatment order." Mezzetti added that the community of Ravarino described him as "a normal boy, who had never shown any visible signs of instability".
The mayor of Ravarino, Maurizia Rebecchi, clarified that El Koudri had been followed by a mental health centre, but had subsequently interrupted that course of treatment. "It will be the exclusive responsibility of the investigation to reconstruct the entire picture," she stated.
In the afternoon, Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi also framed the matter: "Investigators will conduct further checks," but the incident appears to be attributable to "a situation of psychiatric distress".
Deleted posts and absence from the mosque
The computing devices seized by the mobile squad of the Modena questura will need to be analysed in depth. Meta removed some posts published by the man, but not for content of a jihadist nature: part of the messages were sexual in character, others violated the platform's policies for reasons of appropriateness.
The imam of the Islamic community of Ravarino, Abdelmajid Abouelala, reported that El Koudri had never been seen at the community's reference centre.
Health records will also be made available to the judicial authority, with the aim of reconstructing the man's actions in recent years and identifying the reasons for the act, should he not himself provide an explanation.
