23-year-old Nepalese cyclist killed in Mondragone: driver tested positive for alcohol and cocaine
A young Nepalese man died after being struck by a car in Mondragone. The driver, 52 years old, was under the influence of alcohol and drugs and fled the scene of the accident.

A 23-year-old man, originally from Nepal and resident in Mondragone, died after being struck by a car whilst riding a bicycle on via Castel Volturno. ANSA Cronaca reports.
At the wheel of the vehicle was a 52-year-old man from Baia Domizia, who according to investigations by the carabinieri was driving under the influence of alcohol and narcotics. The victim, lawfully present in Italian territory, was assisted by emergency services and transported to Pineta Grande hospital, but did not survive the injuries sustained.
Following the impact, the driver moved away from the scene of the accident in his Doblò, subsequently hiding in a reed marsh area nearby. The carabinieri, alerted by a report to the operations centre and guided by statements from witnesses present, traced him and stopped him there.
After being taken to a medical facility and undergoing the required tests, the 52-year-old was found to have a blood alcohol level exceeding legal limits and tested positive for cocaine and cannabis. The officers arrested him on charges of vehicular manslaughter and failure to render assistance.
The man was taken to Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison, at the disposal of the judicial authorities. The body of the young man is now at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Caserta, where an autopsy will be performed.
