A 31-year-old man from North Macedonia was stopped on 12 June at Perugia airport, immediately after landing on a flight from Tirana. The operation was conducted by officers from the Mobile Squads of Perugia and Arezzo, who had received an arrest warrant issued by the Perugia Prosecutor's Office.
The individual had already been found guilty in two separate trials. In 2018, the Arezzo court had convicted him for aggravated theft committed in the Tuscan city. Subsequently, in 2024, the Umbrian court had held him responsible for another aggravated theft and receiving stolen goods, both occurring in Città di Castello. Both sentences had become final.
The total penalty to be served amounts to twenty-eight months in prison.
Having established that the wanted man had left national territory to escape detention, investigators kept his movements under observation. They thus discovered that he had booked a flight ticket to return to Italy, making it possible to organise his apprehension upon arrival.
After being stopped, the fugitive was taken to Perugia-Capanne prison.
