According to reports from Google News IT — Crime (it), financial police from the Civitavecchia group arrested a Bulgarian lorry driver at the port after discovering 80 kilograms of marijuana hidden in his semi-trailer, which had been unloaded from a motorship arriving from Spain.
The operation was launched during border checks on passengers and vehicles arriving from Spain. Drug detection dog Milton from the anti-drugs canine unit directed officers to the rear of the vehicle; his alert made targeted inspection possible.
The narcotic substance was divided into 71 vacuum-sealed bags, concealed at the bottom of cardboard boxes containing clothing items, which were used as cover cargo. If distributed at retail level, the drugs would have generated illicit proceeds estimated at over half a million euros.
The haulage contractor was arrested in flagrante delicto for international trafficking in narcotic substances, aggravated by the substantial quantity. On the orders of the local public prosecutor's office, the man was taken to Civitavecchia prison. The arrest was subsequently validated by the competent court.
