A 47-year-old man has been remanded in custody on suspicion of committing sexual abuse against a 12-year-old child in Casalnuovo di Napoli.

A 47-year-old man, resident in Casalnuovo di Napoli and active in retail, has been remanded in custody by order of the preliminary investigation judge in Nola. The charges relate to alleged sexual abuse perpetrated against a 12-year-old boy.
The alleged facts date back to the evening of 13 June. The parents of the minor, represented by lawyer Francesco Petruzzi, contacted the authorities after perceiving their son's distress. The child, when questioned, reported what he had suffered.
On social media, the mother circulated a message to denounce what happened, writing that her son had been "robbed of his childhood in an instant".
In the past the arrested man had managed an initiative aimed at vulnerable young people. The news triggered a reaction from the local community: around one hundred people marched through the streets of the town with candles and placards, demanding that a custodial measure be taken.
Officers from the State Police station in Acerra executed the custody order. The investigation is continuing to verify whether there may be other victims.
