A 51-year-old man has been arrested by the State Police after repeatedly assaulting his cohabiting mother, including in the presence of officers who attended to quell the dispute.

On the evening of 17 June, officers from the Flying Squad of the Corigliano-Rossano Police Station responded to the urban area of Corigliano following a report of a violent domestic dispute. Upon arriving quickly at the scene, police officers heard shouting coming from inside a residential building.
Upon entering the flat, finding the front door open, the officers found a 51-year-old man, visibly agitated presumably due to the consumption of alcohol and narcotics. The man was about to strike a glass door with a punch, behind which stood his cohabiting mother, frightened and in a state of shock.
The 51-year-old then smashed the glass with a punch and threw himself at the woman, who had already been subjected to assaults previously, causing her personal injury. Officers managed to restrain the man and prevent him from continuing to strike the victim.
Despite the presence of law enforcement, the aggressor continued with threats and insults directed at his mother, directing intimidatory phrases towards her such as "tonight I'll make you pay for it" and attempting several times to physically assault her. Only decisive police intervention prevented the assault attempts from succeeding.
During the report, the woman stated that her son's violent and threatening conduct towards her has been repeated over time, in a pattern of prolonged domestic abuse.
The 51-year-old was arrested in flagrante for domestic abuse. Acting on the instructions of the duty prosecutor, he was transferred to Castrovillari Prison. At the validation hearing on 19 June 2026, the judge validated the arrest and ordered the precautionary measure of house arrest with an electronic ankle bracelet, conditional on verification of the suitability of the residence indicated.
