Italian authorities have dismantled an international drug trafficking network that supplied seaside resorts on the upper Adriatic coast and several regions in northern Italy. Sixteen people suspected of involvement were arrested during the operation. In total, the investigation involves 35 individuals.
The Italian-Albanian organisation is believed to have operated in heavily tourist-frequented coastal locations popular with Austrian visitors, such as Lignano, Bibione and Jesolo. During raids, law enforcement seized nearly 100 kilogrammes of narcotics. In addition, assets worth approximately 1.1 million euros were confiscated.
During the raids, officers also found three firearms with their serial numbers removed. The exact composition of the seized drugs was not disclosed.
