Twelve arrested for modern slavery: exploiting farm workers using 'Decree Flows'

Criminal network exploited farm workers through 'Decree Flows'
The Carabinieri have arrested twelve people as part of an investigation into a transnational criminal network that reduced farm workers to conditions of modern slavery. This is reported by ANSA Cronaca.
The operation, coordinated by the Anti-Mafia District Directorate (Dda) in Potenza, involved operational units from the Provincial Command of Potenza and the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Labour in Rome. The provinces involved are Potenza, Matera, Salerno, Piacenza and Lecco.
According to a statement from the Provincial Command of Potenza, military personnel executed a precautionary custody order issued by the judge at the Tribunal of Potenza at the request of the local Dda. The twelve suspects are considered responsible, to varying degrees, for criminal association aimed at human trafficking, unlawful intermediation and labour exploitation.
The network allegedly operated by instrumentalising the so-called 'Decree Flows' to attract and exploit farm workers. Details of the operation will be illustrated during a press conference in Potenza.
