Woman and son arrested for murder of husband in Crotone
Carabinieri have arrested Daniela Rossato and her son Nicola Giglio on suspicion of killing and concealing the body of her husband. The investigation, which lasted a year, revealed evidence of involvement following a missing person report filed in 2024.
Arrests for murder in the Crotone area
This morning carabinieri arrested Daniela Rossato, 60, and her son Nicola Giglio, 28, both from Cutro, in execution of a pre-trial detention order. According to rainews.it, the judge for preliminary investigations in Crotone issued the order at the request of the local Public Prosecutor's Office with charges of murder and concealment of a corpse against Salvatore Giglio, 69, the woman's husband.
The investigation began on 28 September 2024, when Rossato presented herself at the Cutro carabinieri station to report her husband's disappearance, stating it had occurred a week earlier. From that moment the man had no further trace. Over the course of a year the carabinieri conducted intensive enquiries, resorting to telephone and environmental interceptions against the victim's relatives and questioning several people.
In December 2025 evidence emerged that led investigators to believe that mother and son were involved in the crime, which occurred on 21 September 2024. According to the charges, the body would have been thrown into the waters of the Tacina river, in the Steccato di Cutro area. Both were then registered in the suspects' register.
The RIS carabinieri and underwater specialists from Messina carried out several inspections to recover the body, which however has not yet been found. The investigative activity documented multiple attempts at obstruction by the couple: the missing person report filed with a delay, concealment of traces, the purchase of bleach apparently to clean the crime scene, and contradictory and false statements made to investigators.
