Woman beaten to death in Amendolara: Albanian partner arrested at Bari port

Arrested at Bari port while fleeing to Albania
According to rainews.it, a 42-year-old Albanian citizen was arrested at Bari port during the night as he was about to board a ferry to Albania. He is the partner of Ornella Forastefano, 46, a resident of Amendolara, who died from injuries sustained in a beating.
The woman's body was found by doctors at Trebisacce hospital outside the emergency department at around 3 in the morning. Attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful: she presented with serious injuries and multiple traumas. It remains unclear whether it was her partner who took her there and left her at the entrance.
The man was known for drug-related offences
Following the discovery of the body, carabinieri investigations focused on the man, who had become untraceable. According to information obtained, he was already known to law enforcement for drug-related offences. The two had lived together for approximately one year.
The investigation is being conducted by carabinieri from the investigative unit of the Cosenza provincial command, the Cassano allo Ionio company and the Trebisacce station, and is coordinated by the public prosecutor's office in Castrovillari.
The victim ran a bar with her children
Ornella Forastefano ran a bar in the centre of Trebisacce with her two children. Originally from Cassano allo Ionio, she was the daughter of Antonio Forastefano, killed in 1999 as he left his fishmonger's shop at Marina di Sibari. Investigators clarify that this circumstance does not appear, at present, to be connected to the woman's death.
Forastefano was also the sister of Domenico Forastefano, considered one of the historical representatives of the homonymous 'ndrangheta clan active in the Sibaritide, and niece of Pasquale Forastefano, currently imprisoned under 41-bis regime. In 2023 the court of appeal in Catanzaro returned to her certain assets that had been seized as part of the Omnia inquiry, after she was found to be unconnected to the proceedings and was never investigated.
Family connections are all to be explored further and describe the context surrounding the victim, but at present do not allow attribution of a motive to her death.
