A woman from Ragusa, a victim of abuse in Egypt, was assisted by the Polaria at Palermo airport. Her Egyptian husband was reported for maltreatment.

Rescued at the airport: escape from her Egyptian husband's violence

According to ANSA Cronaca, the alarm was raised by the woman's aunt, resident in France, to whom her niece from Ragusa had turned for help after suffering abuse and violence in Egypt at the hands of her Egyptian husband.

When the couple landed at Palermo airport during the night between 29 and 30 August, Polaria officers were already waiting. The woman made herself recognised with the conventional distress signal: four fingers of one hand closed.

The man was identified and reported for domestic maltreatment. For his reaction towards the officers, he was also reported for resisting a public official. The woman was transferred to a protected house.

The man reportedly remained in Sicily in an attempt to trace his wife to take her back to Egypt. The operation was coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office in Palermo.
