Drug seizure and arrest at Bastogi
According to romatoday.it, a 46-year-old Italian man was arrested on the evening of Tuesday 6 October in the Bastogi neighbourhood on suspicion of possession of narcotics with intent to distribute. The man was travelling on a Kymco People GTI scooter which, when spotted by the carabinieri, attempted to evade the check by making an abrupt manoeuvre. The chase ended just metres from the starting point, at number 40 via Arnaldo Canepa.
During a search of the driver and his personal effects, officers found 220 grammes of cocaine divided into five heat-sealed and vacuum-packed packages, a further ten grammes of the same substance, and eight blocks of hashish weighing a total of 800 grammes. Alongside the drugs were an Oppo mobile telephone still in its packaging and a 100-metre nylon roll, material suitable for packaging doses.
The inspection of the vehicle and the man revealed additional irregularities: the scooter was already subject to administrative seizure and the 46-year-old was driving with a suspended licence. Relevant notices under the Road Traffic Code were therefore issued, with criminal seizure of the vehicle and 85 euros found on him.
The search was extended to the man's home on via Piero Aloisi, where a further 11.57 grammes of cannabis were discovered hidden under a slipper on a bedroom shelf. A narcotics test confirmed the positivity of all the material. The Public Prosecutor ordered house arrest at his home pending validation hearing with direct trial procedure.
