The State Police have arrested two nationals of Afghan nationality for aggravated assault through the use of weapons, following a violent altercation that occurred near the seaside beaches of Crotone. This is reported in an official statement by questure.poliziadistato.it.
The operation took place within the framework of territorial control services ordered by the Police Chief of the province of Crotone, Renato Panvino, aimed at preventing crime and monitoring the city's most heavily frequented areas during the summer entertainment season.
The Operations Room of the Police Headquarters, upon receiving a report of a violent argument between two foreigners, coordinated the immediate dispatch of patrol car crews to the area. The rapid arrival of officers made it possible to break up the brawl and secure the area, allowing emergency personnel to provide first aid to the injured.
The investigation reconstructed the sequence of events: the two men, both legally registered on Italian territory, had confronted each other at the height of a settling of accounts linked to previous disputes, striking each other reciprocally with cutting weapons and sustaining serious lacerated wounds. Both were transported to the local hospital; one of the two remained hospitalised at the facility.
The patrol car operators proceeded with the identification of the individuals involved and personal searches, subsequently extended also to their respective residences. The two men were placed under arrest and subjected to house arrest pending further dispositions from the judicial authorities.
Regarding the same individuals, the Immigration Office will initiate inquiries to evaluate the existence of the requirements for lawful residence on Italian territory.
On the same day, patrol cars identified 240 people — of which 54 with police records — checked 128 vehicles and verified the status of 20 individuals subject to measures restricting personal freedom.
