Femicide of Lorena Isceri: father appeals for political unity against violence towards women

Franco Isceri, father of Lorena who was killed by her ex on an A1 motorway overpass, launches an appeal to Mattarella and Meloni. "Work in schools, strengthen anti-violence centres."

Appeal of a devastated father: "United politics to stop femicides"

According to Il Fatto Quotidiano - Cronaca, Franco Isceri, father of Lorena — the woman killed by her ex-partner and thrown from an A1 motorway overpass — has released a video in recent hours directed at President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and all political representatives.

"I ask all of politics to be united," Isceri says in the video. "Take measures unanimously, so that tragedies like Lorena's do not happen again. Work in schools, strengthen anti-violence centres and regulatory instruments. I ask this of you with all my heart."

The man describes himself at the beginning of the film as "a devastated father" and paints a portrait of his daughter: "She was well-mannered, studious, devoted to study and work, she had many dreams, but now she has none." On that overpass, he adds, "the will to live of a devastated family is also buried."

The dynamics of the crime

On Thursday, Federico Vella — Lorena Isceri's ex-partner — waited for her in the garage, knocked her unconscious and tied her with cable ties, then locked her in the car boot and finally threw her from an overpass on the A1, near Barberino di Mugello, in the Florence province.

After the crime, Vella wrote to Lorena's mother and telephoned his own, confessing to the crime. He then took his own life by throwing himself from the same overpass.

A cross-party appeal

Franco Isceri chose a deliberately impartial tone, "without right nor left", to emphasise that tackling gender-based violence does not belong to any political side. The appeal closes with a direct message: "A hug to all Italian women."
