Ferrara, control operation in sensitive areas: one arrest and seven charges

Google News IT — Crime (it) reports that the Ferrara State Police conducted an extensive territorial control operation in the past week in the city's most critical areas. The outcome was one arrest, seven charges in freedom of the person for various offences and numerous administrative penalties.

Scooter escape from via Darsena Skate Park

Personnel from the Flying Squad intervened at the Skate Park on via Darsena following a report from a young woman, who had recognised a man she had previously reported as the perpetrator of an offence against her. On the officers' arrival, the individual fled on board an electric scooter, travelling through several city streets with dangerous manoeuvres and ignoring repeated orders to stop. He lost control of the vehicle and was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit. Taken to police headquarters, he was charged with "dangerous flight".

Assault on TPER inspectors on a bus

Officers from the Upgsp intervened at a bus stop following a report of an assault on TPER inspectors. A passenger without a valid travel ticket, who had been issued an administrative fine for an invalid pass, had adopted a violent attitude: he had pushed the inspectors, made threatening remarks and prevented them from completing their operations. Following the formalities, he was charged with resistance to a public official.

Drunk driver stopped in the city centre

During a checkpoint, the Flying Squad stopped a vehicle travelling at high speed on a main city street. The driver showed obvious signs consistent with alcohol consumption. Subjected to breathalyser tests, he tested positive and was referred to the Judicial Authority for driving under the influence, under article 186(2)(b) of the Road Code.

Electric bicycle escape and crack seized near Castello Estense

A Flying Squad patrol intercepted a man on an electric bicycle in the city centre who, upon sighting the officers, fled with dangerous driving. The pursuit concluded near Castello Estense, where the subject lost control of the vehicle of his own accord and fell to the ground. In his backpack was found a toolkit — a wrench, Allen keys, screwdrivers and work gloves — which the man could not justify: the material was seized. During the escape, the subject had attempted to dispose of two packages containing crack and a pipe with residues of the same substance, also seized administratively. In light of specific previous history and unjustified possession of tools, he was charged with dangerous flight and unjustified possession of altered keys or implements.

Family dispute, man taken into arrest

Officers intervened in a family dispute involving multiple individuals, including some minors. One person present, without documents and in an evident state of alcoholic intoxication, was invited to accompany the officers to police headquarters for identification. The man reacted with increasing aggression: he refused to cooperate, pushed an officer and attempted multiple times to evade control. For such conduct he was taken into arrest for resistance to a public official.

Medicines stolen from accident and emergency

Personnel intervened at accident and emergency at the request of medical staff, who reported suspected theft of medicines by a patient and the ill health of a young woman present with him, believed to be in a state of reduced vigilance from having consumed part of the substances taken. Enquiries revealed that the medicine cabinet had been rifled through and several packages were missing. The two were charged in freedom of the person for theft with aggravation against the Hospital Trust.

Overall outcome of the operation

During the entire operation, 895 people were identified by State Police crews, many of whom with prior police records. With regard to the latter, the Crime Prevention Division of the Police Headquarters issued several preventive measures in relation to the offences committed, including three Verbal Warnings — with prohibition from frequenting specific places and persons and warning of further measures in case of non-compliance. Numerous administrative penalties were issued for disorderly intoxication, two penalties for violation of the 48-hour Removal Order were issued and two new orders were issued. One individual was charged with violation of the notice to leave issued by the Municipality of Ferrara.
