A twenty-year-old man from Milan has been arrested in Sanremo on suspicion of killing his 58-year-old mother. The body was found in the hallway of the family apartment.

According to reports from Google News IT — Crime (it), Lorella Capano, 58, was found dead on Monday 6 July in the family apartment in via Hope, on the Foce hillside in Sanremo. Her son Filippo Oldani, 20, a resident of Milan, was arrested during the night on a charge of aggravated voluntary manslaughter.
Mother and son were at the family's second home for summer holidays. The father had remained in Milan for work; the brother and sister were scheduled to use the apartment in subsequent shifts.
The call to 112 and the discovery of the body
Shortly after 10 pm, Filippo called 112, claiming he could not get back into the house. "The door is locked, my mother isn't answering — the young man stated — and yet she knew full well that I'd gone out without my keys, we'd agreed that she would wait for me". The fire brigade, receiving no response, entered through the balcony of an adjacent apartment, forcing open a glass door.
Inside, they found Lorella Capano lying on the floor in the hallway, behind the front door, lifeless. On her neck there were visible marks consistent with strangulation; on her face and arms there were bruises and wounds. The medical examiner found unequivocal traces of violent struggle with the perpetrator of the crime. The 118 paramedic unit, arriving within minutes, could do nothing.
The contradictions in the account
The Carabinieri from Sanremo and Imperia and the duty magistrate focused their attention on Filippo from the early hours. The young man was in a state of shock, but in his responses to the officers and the public prosecutor, incongruent details, hesitations and statements that were contradicted by images from the surveillance cameras in the area emerged.
What weighed decisively was the testimony of a neighbour, who reported having clearly heard a heated argument between mother and son during the evening. Furthermore, Filippo had bruises and scratches on his body, marks consistent with a physical altercation, which he was unable to explain.
The interrogation and the arrest
During the night, an interrogation began that lasted much of the following day: first with the Carabinieri, then with prosecutor Enrico Cinnella Della Porta. Over the course of hours, amid growing contradictions, half-truths and confirmed lies, Filippo went from principal suspect to under investigation to free man, until his arrest in the afternoon. He was taken to the San Remo prison at Valle Armea.
Meanwhile, the Carabinieri went through the apartment and the entire surrounding area with a fine-tooth comb, seizing two bags of waste from the building's refuse bins and searching for traces in every corner.
The father arrives in Sanremo
Filippo's father, a private banker at Mediolanum, reached Sanremo during the day. A small group of onlookers gathered in via Hope. Neighbours described the family as wealthy and quiet: "They seemed very respectable. Polite, smiling. They came every July — the mother with her son, then the brother and sister in turn, and every now and then the father as well".
