The Parma Traffic Police have identified and reported 20 people, residents in other provinces, accused jointly of insurance fraud, forgery and receiving stolen goods against a mandated agency of a well-known insurance company, reports gazzettadiparma.it.
According to the investigators' reconstruction, false insurance intermediaries — lacking registration on the list established by Ivass — offered customers discounted rates by arranging motor liability policies at agencies located in areas classified as "low insurance risk", such as the Parma territory.
The policies for cars and motorcycles were activated at the Parma agency by individuals who presented themselves with false personal details and exhibited forged vehicle registration certificates and historical importance certificates, misleading the insurance broker, who was unaware of the fraudulent scheme.
To further reduce the premium to be paid, recently registered vehicles were "transformed" into vehicles of historical and collectible interest through certifications that proved to be false. This category of vehicles is normally subject to usage restrictions — both temporal and mileage — and falls into a low claims rate bracket, resulting in a reduction in the cost of cover.
The Parma Traffic Police emphasised their continuous commitment to controls aimed at preventing and suppressing such offences, as well as monitoring the subjects operating in the automotive supply chain.
The responsibility of the people under investigation can only be definitively established in the presence of a final irrevocable conviction, in respect of the presumption of innocence principle.
