Police chase and cocaine: 20-year-old arrested in Gricignano di Aversa

Chase on SS7 bis, young man stopped after collision with guardrail

The Caserta State Police have arrested a 20-year-old from Naples province on charges of dangerous fleeing and possession of cocaine for drug trafficking purposes. This is reported by questure.poliziadistato.it.

Officers from the Flying Squad of the Aversa Police Station were conducting anti-drug checks in the Agro Aversano area when, in the municipality of Succivo, they identified a vehicle carrying a person already known for previous offences related to drug dealing.

When asked to stop, the driver ignored the signal and fled along the State Road 7 bis in the direction of Gricignano di Aversa. The chase ended when the vehicle collided with the guardrail, allowing officers to apprehend the fugitive.

During the chase, the man had attempted to dispose of a package. The material recovered by officers proved to be cocaine.

The young man was also arrested under application of the new Road Code provisions on so-called "dangerous fleeing", provisions invoked in view of the risk posed to other road users and the police officers themselves engaged in the pursuit.

The arrested man has been placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority for the measures falling within its competence.
