A heavily attended but heavily secured ceremony marked the funeral of Beatrice Aiello, the two-year-old girl killed after repeated mistreatment. As reported by Corriere della Sera – Cronache, the body of the child had been found at home on 9 February.
"Beatrice, where are you? Were you afraid?" With a broken voice, Monsignor Antonio Suetta addressed these words to the child during the homily, celebrated in Bordighera in front of a moved crowd.
The Prefect of Imperia arranged a red zone around the church, with barriers and filtered access, for fear of possible disorder among family members. Upon the arrival of the small white coffin, the crowd paid tribute with prolonged applause.
Charged with murder in Beatrice's death are her mother, Emanuela Aiello, and her partner, Emanuel Iannuzzi. Both are currently in prison.
