Shop thefts in Desenzano del Garda: two foreign offenders arrested, expelled from Italy
The State Police have arrested a 23-year-old Peruvian man and a 45-year-old Chilean woman for aggravated theft committed together in shops in the centre of Desenzano del Garda. The Prefect of Brescia has ordered the expulsion of both.

The State Police have arrested two foreign nationals — a 23-year-old man of Peruvian nationality and a 45-year-old woman of Chilean nationality — for aggravated theft committed together in commercial establishments in the town centre of Desenzano del Garda. The "lookout" technique and shielded bags
The operation was part of a specific service aimed at preventing and suppressing widespread crime. Officers observed in Piazza Feltrinelli a vehicle with two people on board repeatedly travelling down via Lungo Lago Cesare Battisti, stopping near various shops and watching parked vehicles intently.
The surveillance made it possible to document the modus operandi of the two: inside one of the commercial establishments they visited, the man kept the only shop assistant present at the till in conversation, while his accomplice removed numerous packages of various products from the shelves, concealing them in her own bag before leaving. The same technique was verified in a second shop.
Officers, with support from a Carabinieri patrol, stopped the two subjects. A personal and vehicle search was successful: in the bags of both — shielded with metallic material to neutralise anti-theft systems — the stolen goods were found and seized, subsequently returned to the owners of the robbed shops.
Both detainees had numerous prior criminal convictions and police records for crimes against property, crimes against the person and drug trafficking.
Arrests, expulsion and ban on return
Following police investigations, the two were arrested for aggravated theft committed together and illegal possession of items suited to breaking and entering, and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The Prefect of the Province of Brescia, Paolo Sartori, issued an Order to Leave Italian Territory against both, which is preparatory to their expulsion from Italy. In application of the Anti-Mafia Laws Code, he also ordered the Personal Preventive Measure of the Mandatory Exclusion Order, with a ban on returning to the Municipality of Desenzano del Garda for the next three years. In the event of violation of the measure, the two risk up to one and a half years imprisonment and a fine of €10,000.
"Episodes like this also demonstrate how thefts in commercial establishments, committed with such skill and precautions as to reveal the specific 'professionalism' of those responsible, constitute serious harm to those who suffer them," the Prefect Sartori declared. "The cooperation between citizens and Law Enforcement is indispensable in order to ensure promptness and effectiveness in interventions, and to bring those responsible to justice."
