Arrest in Desenzano del Garda: man steals from car and assaults police

A 27-year-old Moroccan citizen with no fixed address and irregular status in the country was arrested in recent days by officers from the Public Security Police Station in Desenzano del Garda. This is reported by questure.poliziadistato.it. The man, who had numerous previous convictions for crimes against property, receiving stolen goods, fraud and resistance to a public official, was stopped after stealing from a parked vehicle and subsequently assaulting the police officers who responded.

The alarm was raised through the emergency number 112: the car owner—manager of a beach establishment on the lakefront—reported an ongoing theft to the Police Headquarters Operations Centre in Via Agello. According to the reconstruction, the suspect had entered the private car park of the establishment, forced open the door of a company vehicle and stolen personal items and cash, then fled the scene.

Officers, who arrived quickly at the location, intercepted the offender. From the first contact, the man showed himself to be uncooperative and attempted to flee. After a brief chase he was stopped and immobilised inside the police vehicle, not without difficulty: the suspect continued to kick and assault the police officers in an attempt to escape the arrest.

The personal search proved successful: officers found and seized most of the stolen goods, which were later returned to the legitimate owner during the filing of a report.

Taken to the Police Station, following the conclusion of the judicial police proceedings, the man was arrested for attempted aggravated theft, resistance and violence against a public official, and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The Questor of the Province of Brescia, Paolo Sartori, issued an Order for Removal from National Territory against the arrested person, in preparation for expulsion. The Questor also ordered, pursuant to the Anti-Mafia Laws Code, the preventative measure of an Obligatory Removal Notice with a ban on returning to the municipality of Desenzano del Garda for the next three years. In the event of violation of the measure, the suspect risks up to one and a half years imprisonment and a fine of €10,000.

"Once again," Questor Sartori stated, "it emerges how fundamental the collaboration of citizens is, as the prompt call to the Police enabled a rapid and effective intervention, clear evidence of the importance of reporting to the Law Enforcement Forces any potentially dangerous situation in order to prevent and suppress the commission of crimes and the identification and capture of those responsible."
