Gela: minor arrested for drug trafficking, found with drugs and cash

A seventeen-year-old boy has been arrested by the State Police in Gela for unlawful possession of narcotic substances. The arrest took place on Sunday afternoon inside the flat of a person subject to the alternative measure of house detention.

Officers from the mobile units, engaged in a routine control operation, spotted the minor inside the residence. Upon seeing the police, the young man made a sudden movement to dispose of several packages. The officers promptly blocked the attempt and recovered the material: approximately half an ounce of white powder, presumed to be cocaine, together with substances used for cutting and a precision electronic scale.

During a personal search, investigators found in the 17-year-old's pockets a sum exceeding two thousand euros in banknotes, considered the proceeds of illicit trafficking.

The young man already had a criminal record: previous convictions for obstructing authorities, violation of drugs laws and driving without a valid licence. The Police Superintendent had already given him a verbal caution, urging him to correct his behaviour.

Taken to the Police Station and subjected to standard procedures, the minor was then transferred to a facility for juvenile justice on the orders of the investigating magistrate of the juvenile court of Caltanissetta. During the hearing to validate the arrest, the judge for preliminary investigations confirmed the restrictive measure and, at the request of the prosecution, ordered his placement in an educational community.

It should be noted that, under the principle of presumption of innocence, the culpability of the arrested person can only be established by a definitive sentence.
