Genoa, 33 kg of drugs seized hidden in vacuum cleaners and speaker boxes
The Genoa-Sestri Financial Police discovered hashish and marijuana from Spain concealed in modified household appliances during a check on commercial flows. The value of the drugs is over 300,000 euros.
Drugs hidden in household appliances
The Genoa-Sestri Financial Police seized 33 kilogrammes of drugs — 25 of hashish and 8 of marijuana — originating from Spain and concealed inside vacuum cleaners and modified Bluetooth speaker boxes. According to Corriere della Sera - Cronache, the discovery was made during a check on the flow of goods coming into the country from Iberian territory.
The investigators noticed anomalies in the packages: the electronic devices were non-functional and the documents contained discrepancies. This prompted the financial officers to continue their inspections. The vacuum cleaners and audio devices were subjected to complete dismantling to reveal the internal structure.
Once the outer casing was opened and the screws removed, it emerged that the original mechanical and electronic components had been replaced with numerous blocks of drugs, carefully packaged and concealed. The seized drugs have an estimated value of over 300,000 euros. The operation confirms the sophisticated methods adopted by international trafficking networks to circumvent customs controls by modifying common electronic items.
