Conviction for deliberate fire in Sarroch countryside

The Cagliari Court sentenced to four years and eight months the man who on 29 May 2025 set fire to the countryside of Sarroch, in the locality of Su Leunaxi in the territory of the Municipality of Pula, not far from the town centre and the Saras refinery.

According to ANSA Cronaca, the reconstruction of events was made possible thanks to investigations by the Forestry and Environmental Surveillance Corps of the Sardinia Region. The flames spread in the afternoon and the prompt report allowed the firefighting teams of the Forestry Corps to intervene rapidly, with the support of helicopters, to contain and extinguish the fire.

At the point of ignition, investigators found the remains of a partially burnt improvised incendiary device. Images from surveillance cameras made it possible to establish that the man had thrown the device from his own car whilst travelling along the roadside.

On the basis of such evidence, the arrest of the suspect was ordered. The judge for preliminary investigations of the Cagliari Court subsequently issued a sentence of four years and eight months' imprisonment.
