A 23-year-old man, Leonardo Bianchi from Gossolengo, died on the evening of 27 September when a Mini Cooper crashed into a tree on via Egidio Carella in Pianello. According to ilpiacenza.it, the driver — a 22-year-old local — was subjected to toxicological tests which revealed the presence of alcohol and drugs in his blood. Public prosecutor Luca Morisi has opened an investigation file for causing death by dangerous driving and is gathering all the enquiries carried out by the carabinieri.
The impact was extremely violent. Bianchi was in the front seat. A 25-year-old friend from Pianello, sitting behind, remains in critical condition at the Maggiore hospital in Parma after being extracted by a 118 helicopter. The driver is hospitalised at Piacenza hospital with multiple trauma and injuries. The autopsy on Bianchi's body and the full results of the driver's toxicological tests will feed into the case file.
The 118 emergency medical staff and fire brigade worked through the night to extract the three young men from the wreckage. The carabinieri from Agazzano, then those from Pianello and the Radiomobile from Bobbio carried out the investigations. The car had apparently been seen speeding through several streets in the town a few minutes before the tragedy, still busy with the major San Maurizio fair.
