In the early hours of 14 July 2026, officers from the State Police arrested a 33-year-old man, a foreign national, accused of drug dealing and resisting law enforcement. The action came at the end of a dramatic car chase through the city streets.
The incident began at around 03:50 in the morning, when a patrol car on duty on Via Emilia Pavese, heading towards Rottofreno, encountered a grey-coloured vehicle proceeding in the opposite direction. The police officers decided to carry out a check, activating their lights, but the driver pressed the accelerator and fled.
At the roundabout with Via Stradella, the vehicle lost stability and continued weaving between lanes at speeds exceeding 120 km/h. The driver went through speed bumps, ran red lights, disregarded right-of-way, and travelled long stretches in the wrong direction, creating serious danger for anyone on the road.
After a pursuit lasting several kilometres, the man attempted to drive onto a road parallel to the ring road, but a wrong manoeuvre caused the car to skid. At that point the fugitive abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Caught up by the officers, he reacted violently, triggering a scuffle before being overpowered and arrested.
A search allowed officers to find and seize quantities of narcotics and an electronic weighing scale.
At the immediate trial hearing, the magistrate imposed a house arrest requirement on the defendant.
