As part of sanctions against Moscow, Italian Financial Police have seized assets belonging to Russian oligarchs worth approximately two billion euros. The operation was announced on the occasion of the force's 252nd anniversary.

On the occasion of its 252nd anniversary, the Italian Financial Police (GDF) announced that it had seized assets traceable to Russian magnates with an approximate value of two billion euros. The measures are part of the sanctions package adopted following Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, as reported by LRT.
Among the seized assets are real estate, motor vehicles, luxury vessels, works of art and corporate shareholdings. The operation falls within activities aimed at combating violations of the international sanctions regime.
During the same press conference, the GDF released additional data relating to investigative activity carried out between January 2025 and May 2026. During that period, cases of tax fraud connected to funds from the European Union and Italy were identified, totalling over 1.6 billion euros.
In the same period, the Financial Police seized assets worth 4.7 billion euros, traceable to tax evasion and concealment of income. Almost 8,300 individuals were identified who had not declared their full taxable income, in addition to over 47,400 people employed illegally or irregularly.
Finally, the Financial Police transmitted to the judicial authorities over 20,400 individuals accused of tax crimes.
