Two 16-year-olds assaulted with machete in Crema: arrests made
Police have stopped two Egyptian citizens residing in Crema — a 21-year-old and a 23-year-old — on charges of attempted murder in concert, according to ANSA Cronaca. The two are considered responsible for the attack that took place on the evening of 1 August outside the railway station in Crema, in the province of Cremona.
Within the space of an hour, in two successive actions, the victims — both foreign 16-year-olds — were struck with brutality. According to investigators, the 23-year-old allegedly used a machete measuring 52 centimetres in total length, with a blade of 36 centimetres, to strike one of the young men. The 21-year-old allegedly kicked, punched and beat the second youth with a club. In the investigators' view, without the intervention of bystanders, the victim would have died.
A third 16-year-old, also foreign, was wounded by a stab wound to the neck: the case notes state that it had been "an action capable of causing his death".
During the attack, some friends of the victims intervened with sticks and chains, putting the assailants to flight.
The causes of the violence remain to be clarified. The hypothesis considered most probable by investigators is that the facts were triggered by disputes related to drug dealing.
Nearly all those involved have been identified, and expulsion procedures have been initiated for 12 foreign nationals: 8 Egyptians, 2 Moroccans, 1 Moldovan and 1 Senegalese.
