German man, 62, arrested in Manduria for assault and stalking
State Police execute custody order against man accused of physical violence, threats and harassment of ex-partner. Knife found during search.
Arrested for years of domestic violence and threats
According to questure.poliziadistato.it, the State Police executed a custody order for imprisonment issued by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations at the Taranto Court of Law. The man arrested is a 62-year-old of German origin resident in Manduria, accused of domestic assault and harassment against his ex-partner.
The investigation, coordinated by the Judicial Authority and conducted by Manduria Police Station, was initiated following the woman's report to police, in which she reported the end of the relationship and the violent behaviour of her ex-partner. The investigations documented a pattern of physical and psychological abuse that lasted for years, manifested in pulling, slapping, pushing and assaults accompanied by threats involving the use of weapons and objects capable of causing injury.
Alongside the physical violence, the man allegedly engaged in continuous psychological abuse, with insulting language and abusive epithets almost daily, as well as serious threats directed at the victim's daughter. The order was also considered necessary due to the suspect's police record for similar acts of harassment already committed.
In the days before the arrest, officers had ordered the man to stay away from the woman's home. Disregarding this, he had attempted to enter the property again despite security measures being in place, demonstrating a lack of self-control. During execution of the measure, a personal search resulted in the discovery of a knife with a 9 cm blade, seized and charged as unlawful possession of weapons. The arrested man was taken to Taranto Prison. It is recalled that the principle of presumption of innocence applies until final conviction.
