Seizure in Mantua province
Mantua Traffic Police have sealed off an area of approximately 300 square metres in Castel D'Ario, on the border with Verona province, where an unauthorised mechanical workshop was operating. According to questure.poliziadistato.it, a routine inspection transformed into a more complex investigation after checks revealed a vehicle dismantling and repair activity being carried out without the necessary authorisations.
At the site, approximately 60 scrap vehicles were found together with large quantities of waste materials, including hazardous waste such as batteries and used oil, tyres, engines and automotive components. Documentation of the area by means of drones allowed investigators to acquire further evidence about the extent of the property and the ways the spaces were being used. The accumulation of materials had transformed the place into an area of significant environmental degradation, far beyond what would be expected from an ordinary storage facility or a legitimate workshop.
The owner of the area has been reported to the judicial authorities for uncontrolled storage of hazardous and non-hazardous waste, unauthorised management of waste and unauthorised exercise of vehicle dismantling activity. Local Police cooperated in the operation by providing support during the inspections.
ARPA was involved for environmental assessments. The checks will concern the possible presence of oils and polluting liquids in rainwater collection systems, with specific focus on any spillage into sewers and soil contamination phenomena. These elements could add further charges to the investigation already focused on illegal management of vehicles and waste.
