The investigating judge at Rome's Court has ordered house arrest for Mario Adinolfi, 52, a journalist and founder of the "La Manif Pour Tous" movement. The order, issued at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office, accuses him of aggravated and continuous fraud against numerous savers, as well as tax evasion.
According to the investigators' reconstruction, Adinolfi is alleged to have used a system defined as "collective betting" to collect substantial sums of money from private individuals, promising high and guaranteed returns. The investigation has made it possible to quantify the total damage at figures in the millions, with dozens of people falling victim to the alleged scam.
Among the victims is also an elderly couple from Modena, who have stated that they handed over their savings to the suspect, convinced by his values and public presentation. However, when the agreed deadline arrived, they would not have received any reimbursement. Indeed, according to their account, Adinolfi would have even accused them of being "greedy". The damage suffered by the couple amounts to €79,000.
The judge found serious evidence of guilt to exist and assessed the suspect's profile as "socially dangerous", thus justifying the choice of house arrest as a precautionary measure. Investigations are continuing to reconstruct the entire network of financial operations and identify any other victims of the scheme.
