Large-scale checks at Cirò Marina: 699 people identified, two prosecuted for drug offences

The Questore of the Province of Crotone, Renato Panvino, ordered a large-scale territorial control operation at Cirò Marina, deploying various departments of the Questura and Specialities. The operation involved personnel from Anti-crime, the Mobile Squad, the Immigration Office, the Cabinet Office, the Road Police and Polfer, with the objective of preventing and suppressing crimes, in particular the trafficking of narcotics, and verifying the status of individuals with criminal records under house arrest and special surveillance subjects.
Operation figures
The overall balance of the operation registered 699 people identified, of which 170 with criminal records, 22 home visits of subjects subject to measures restricting personal liberty and 9 Road Traffic Code sanctions.
The Anti-crime Division and the Mobile Squad concentrated their attention on 22 subjects subject to restrictions on personal liberty — all resident in the municipality of Cirò Marina — including people under house arrest for crimes relating to narcotics and criminal association of mafia-type, as well as subjects under special surveillance.
Road and railway checks
On the state roads, the Road Police identified 27 people, 8 of whom with criminal records, checked 19 vehicles and issued 7 Road Traffic Code sanctions. The Railway Police, operating in the areas adjacent to the station and on the main routes, identified 60 people — 15 of whom tested positive in checks — and verified 47 vehicles.
The teams of the Crime Prevention Unit set up several checkpoints in the territory of Cirò Marina, identifying 137 people, of whom 42 had criminal records, and checking 58 vehicles.
The patrol units deployed in the territorial control operation identified 396 people, 65 of whom with criminal records, and checked 190 vehicles, issuing 2 Road Traffic Code sanctions.
Bar sanctioned for unlawful occupation of public land
During the same day, the personnel of the Administrative Police Office carried out 3 administrative checks at commercial establishments. In a bar in Cirò Marina, the owner was sanctioned for unlawful occupation of public land: the administrative penalty amounted to 173 euros.
Two young people prosecuted for drugs in the nightlife scene
During the week, as part of anti-trafficking operations, the Patrol Squad prosecuted two young people found in possession of cocaine and hashish to the Judicial Authority. The two, on motorcycles, were moving around in the areas of the town centre frequented by the Crotone youth nightlife scene, waiting to sell the substances.
