Half a kilogram of hashish from Reggio Calabria to Bastogi: 38-year-old arrested in Rome
A 38-year-old Calabrese man was arrested in Bastogi with 500 grammes of hashish, six mobile phones and 3,700 euros in cash. The judge for preliminary investigations validated the arrest: he is now held at Regina Coeli prison.

A 38-year-old man from Calabria was arrested by the State Police in the Bastogi district of Rome with approximately 500 grammes of hashish in his rucksack. According to questure.poliziadistato.it, which reconstructs the entire journey of the suspect: first by train to the capital, then by taxi to one of the main drug dealing squares in the area.
The officers of the Mobile Unit became suspicious at the arrival of the taxi in that area. The police followed the vehicle to its destination and intervened only after the passenger had paid the fare.
When asked for documents, the man appeared nervous and stated that he was without identity papers, adding that he had just arrived from Calabria to visit a friend living in the neighbourhood. However, his account collapsed when he was unable to provide either the name or address of the alleged acquaintance.
The strong smell of narcotics coming from the baggage dispelled any remaining doubts. Inside the rucksack, officers found five blocks of hashish weighing approximately 500 grammes in total, with identifying markings impressed on the packaging, probably used to classify the substance in the drug dealing market.
In the same rucksack were also concealed a packet of cigarettes containing additional doses of hashish, six mobile phones still sealed in their original packaging, and approximately 3,700 euros in cash.
After completing their checks, the man was placed under arrest. The Public Prosecutor's Office of Rome requested and obtained from the Judge for Preliminary Investigations the validation of the arrest. By order of the Judicial Authority, the journey of the 38-year-old concluded in Regina Coeli prison, where he is now seriously suspected of possession of narcotic substances for the purpose of dealing.
It is clarified that the facts described pertain to the preliminary investigation phase: the principle of presumption of innocence applies to the person under investigation until any definitive finding by an irrevocable conviction sentence.
