A 22-year-old from Gambia stabbed a 55-year-old man outside a bar in central Milan, causing serious but non-fatal injuries. The victim, Gerardo P., was rushed to Niguarda hospital in Milan, where he underwent subsequent surgical procedures. He is currently hospitalised in intensive care, with conditions in continuous improvement and no permanent complications expected.

According to reports from Newsit, the attacker, identified as Lamin Saytili, was arrested last Saturday and is being held in San Vittore prison. An investigation has been launched against him for attempted murder with aggravating circumstances, as the authorities describe the assault as premeditated with no apparent motive.

The investigation by the Milan Prosecutor's Office, headed by prosecutor Elio Ramondini, has requested validation of the arrest, emphasising both the risk of flight and the seriousness of the possible repetition of similar criminal behaviour. According to the accusation, the youth had gone to the scene wearing a black hooded sweatshirt of balaclava type, covering his facial features. He was wielding a knife with a total length of 21 centimetres and, without any prior verbal exchange or altercation, approached the victim from behind.

Law enforcement officials contend that the man struck the 55-year-old with approximately 20 slashing blows to the head, neck, chest and abdomen, before being restrained and arrested by responding officers. The entire assault was captured by security cameras in the area and the footage circulated widely online.

In statements made after his arrest, the suspect reportedly told investigators: "I enjoyed it. As soon as I get out, I'll do it again." These alleged statements constitute part of the evidence examined during the criminal proceedings.

The case has also provoked political reactions in Italy. Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the League, Matteo Salvini, commented on social media regarding the alleged statements made by the arrested man, stating that if confirmed, "he should never leave prison." The investigation by Italian authorities is continuing, whilst the judiciary awaits examination of all elements of the case as the criminal trial progresses.
