Inside his waist bag 13.7 grammes of methamphetamine were found, partly already divided into nine half-gramme doses ready for distribution.
The operation is part of systematic checks in the city's most frequented areas by young people, conducted by the intercommunal local police force with a view to prevention and monitoring of the territory.
Suspicious behaviour and the check
During the patrol, officers noticed a group of youths. On seeing the uniforms, one of them attempted to hastily hide a waist bag under his body. Officers immediately intervened to identify and check the young person.
Inspection of the bag led to the discovery of three packages containing methamphetamine — commonly known as "meth" — totalling 13.7 grammes. A substantial part of the substance was already packaged in nine half-gramme doses each, ready to be distributed.
Previous convictions for extortion and threats in contexts of youth gangs
Checks through police force databases revealed that the minor already had previous convictions for extortion and threat offences committed in the context of youth gangs. In light of the quantity of drugs seized and the profile of the boy, officers arrested him in flagrante for possession with intent to supply controlled substances.
The young person was put at the disposal of the judicial authority for summary trial. The judge, taking into account that the facts occurred in a place of youth gathering with immediate risk of distribution of the controlled substance, validated the arrest and applied the precautionary measure of a ban on residence in Rimini province, from which the minor must immediately withdraw.
Constant presence in gathering areas
The arrest is the direct result of a strategy of close patrol control, aimed at guaranteeing full use of public spaces to families and users of the city. Local police emphasise the effectiveness of preventive checks in areas with high youth attendance.
