He addressed staff with an appeal for "calm, balance and spirit of sacrifice", in a visit that followed by one day his presence in Val di Susa, after tensions linked to the incident.
The most significant moment was an unscheduled meeting with Fakir's sister and niece. The two women, leaving police headquarters, expressed cautious optimism: "We have faith in justice and in Italian police", they stated, adding that they now felt "more confident". A sign of easing tension after days of street clashes.
Public Prosecutor's investigation: next steps
The investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office in Bologna is underway. In the coming days, those who alerted emergency services and eyewitnesses will be heard. In all likelihood, those who assisted officers in restraining Fakir will also be called, as documented by videos circulated in recent weeks. The investigation is currently being conducted by the Mobile Squad, the same division to which the two police officers registered in the investigation register belong, along with four Red Cross first responders.
Family's lawyer requests a different investigative body
The lawyer for the Fakir family, Fabio Anselmo, has called for the case to be transferred "to a different investigative body". The request, the lawyer explains, arises from "very strong political pressure exerted on Bologna police headquarters": according to Anselmo, ministers and figures from the governing majority visited the offices conducting the investigation, "publicly proclaiming the officers' innocence" and creating "a climate incompatible with the serenity that should accompany a sensitive investigation".
Police unions responded firmly, accusing Anselmo of seeking to "delegitimise" officers and magistrates. They claim that suggesting investigators and public prosecutors might yield to "alleged political pressure" means casting heavy suspicion on institutions "without offering any concrete evidence".
Thursday: unrepeatable examination of Fakir's phone
An unrepeatable examination of Fakir's phone is scheduled for Thursday. The task of unlocking the device and recovering data has been entrusted to computer engineer Giuseppe Ferraro. Defence lawyers for the investigated persons and the family may appoint their own independent consultants.
On the same day, the lawyer for the officers, Gabriele Bordoni, will ask the Public Prosecutor's Office to extend the analysis to the extraction of all videos acquired, with the aim of improving their quality and audio. These are the same recordings for which, the previous day, Anselmo filed a complaint for unauthorised disclosure of official documents.
