Law enforcement has uncovered a complex clandestine shelter excavated beneath a building in the province of Reggio Calabria, equipped with habitable rooms and an underground passage for escape.

A sophisticated hidden refuge was discovered in Ardore, in the Reggio Calabria area, during a joint operation by the Carabinieri of the Operational Unit of Locri and the local Station, with technical support from the "Calabria" Airborne Hunters Squadron and assistance from the Bianco Fire Brigade.
During the inspection, conducted within a building, the military personnel identified an underground area divided into three spaces: a sleeping area, a bathroom and a chamber designed as an escape route. The entrance was concealed by a heavy reinforced concrete panel, invisible from outside, operated by means of a hidden electrical device.
Beyond the hatch, a narrow tunnel wound through the soil for approximately 120 metres. The tunnel was constructed to allow any potential occupant to move away quickly towards the surrounding countryside.
The investigation is ongoing to establish who built the structure, who used it and who owns the building. The news was reported by Corriere della Sera.
