A 41-year-old man was found lifeless in his flat in Corsico, on the outskirts of Milan. The body showed blade wounds and signs consistent with strangulation.

An unbearable foul odour prompted neighbours to call emergency services to via Parini 11 in Corsico. Armed carabinieri, with the help of firefighters, entered the eighth-floor flat where Alessio Borelli, 41, who was born in Treviglio, lived. Inside they found his lifeless body lying in the dining room, showing initial signs of decomposition.
The victim bore cut wounds to the chest and neck area. A blood-stained kitchen knife was found beside him and was subsequently seized. Investigators are not ruling out, however, that death occurred through strangulation: marks were indeed observed on the neck that could support this hypothesis. The exact date of death and the precise cause will be determined by autopsy.
The flat was in disarray, a circumstance that suggests a struggle or violent altercation. Some residents of the building reported that on the preceding Wednesday they had heard the victim in an animated discussion with another person inside his home. Borelli had lived alone in that condominium for approximately eight years.
The man had varied work experience: in the past he had worked as a shop assistant in a clothing store and as an insurance agent, whilst more recently he was employed at a call centre. His criminal record included convictions related to controlled substances, including a conviction for the sale of a synthetic drug associated with the chemsex phenomenon.
The flat door was locked and the keys were not found, making it necessary for firefighters to intervene and force entry by descending from the roof. Yesterday evening, outside the building, several acquaintances and work colleagues of the victim came forward seeking information; upon identification they reacted with considerable distress.
The case is being pursued by carabinieri from the local company and the Milan investigative unit, under the direction of public prosecutor Ilaria Perinu. At present no line of inquiry is being ruled out: the motive could be linked to the victim's private life or to an attempted robbery.
