Camorra ambush on Via Pontenuovo, Antonio Mauro dead

According to rainews.it, a 48-year-old man was killed after 10 p.m. on Via Pontenuovo, near Porta Capuana in Naples, while many people were still in the street. The victim is Antonio Mauro, with previous convictions for extortion and voluntary attempted murder and links to the Contini clan.

In 2007 Mauro had already been the target of an ambush with firearms, managing to survive. This time he did not make it, shot down almost outside his own home.

Officers from Naples' mobile squad attended the scene. The investigation is focusing on the victim's recent associations: a resurgence of tensions between historic clans in the city centre is not ruled out, but investigators are also pursuing the line of a settling of scores.
