Arrested for gardener's murder
According to brindisireport.it, Gabriele Sorada, 28, has been remanded in custody accused of voluntary manslaughter in the death of Antonio Nisi, a 34-year-old gardener found dead on the night of 16 October near Piazza della Libertà in Ostuni. Sorada spent a day at the carabinieri barracks before the remand order, assisted by lawyer Vito Cellie.
Public prosecutor Laura De Stradis questioned the suspect at Ostuni carabinieri station. Sorada exercised his right to remain silent, providing only his version of events. The Brindisi court ordered his detention in custody.
Nisi's death is believed to have been caused by a gunshot wound. The body was discovered by residents who found it on a stone pavement. 118 emergency personnel confirmed the death. Medical examiner Domenico Urso identified a bullet hole between the arm and armpit, apparently consistent with a 7.65-calibre pistol, which has not yet been recovered.
The investigation involved numerous witnesses questioned at the barracks from Friday morning onwards. The carabinieri acquired footage from surveillance cameras in the area to reconstruct the circumstances of the crime. Investigators are maintaining secrecy regarding the motive, with the hypothesis of drug dealing among the scenarios being considered. An autopsy is expected in the early days of the following week.
